Are you in a desert?

Psalm 42:1–3
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”

Have you ever felt dry spiritually?

It feels like you are so numb, yet so angry or depressed at the same time. It makes you feel a bit like a hypocrite around other Christians. Worship gets hard, and listening to or reading Scripture becomes more religious than relational. You go through the motions because it feels like the right thing to do—or it’s all you know to do. It gets hard to hear God’s whispers through the enemy’s lies.

The Psalms are full of David’s dry or depressed moments. If you have not read them, you should soon. They really help you understand how to take true, real-life emotions and situations to the Lord. He knows you. He knows how He created you to think and feel. He even understands your temptations. So if He already knows, you can take it to Him. Tell Him everything like David did. David’s psalms are raw before God. He holds nothing back. But he also shows you how to refocus your mind on God. Many times, after telling God how he feels, he comes back to the conclusion that God is still worthy of praise and that He is still good.

As many times as I have read different books in the Bible, I can’t help but continuously flip back to the Psalms. And at times, I pray them out or read them to God as I pour out my own pain before the Lord. So I would encourage you to read through the Psalms and find comfort or understanding in its pages this week. Please tell us which one stood out to you the most and why. We would love to see things through a new perspective.

Have a good week, everyone.
