Dustin’s Devotionals: Life-Changing Effects of God’s Presence
The Ark stayed in Obed-edom for 3 months after God killed Uzzah.
Have you ever wondered what Obed-edom was thinking? He was probably there the moment Uzzah died. I don’t know how he was chosen to house the Ark; I picture David wondering what to do next, turning to the crowd and saying, “Who will house the Ark?” and Obed-edom is the lone hand raised in the crowd. Everyone just saw someone die for touching it, and now Obed-edom is going to place it in his living room.
His house was blessed for 3 months. His home was a temporary Tabernacle, and a non-priest experienced something very few ever did: living in God’s glory.
This encounter altered Obed-edom’s life forever. If you look up his name in a Bible search, he spends the rest of his life getting as close to the Ark as possible. List of guards, he’s there. Worship team? He is signed up.
When you experience God like that, you are marked for life.
To bring the Ark back to Jerusalem, the Levites carried it six steps and made a sacrifice. Thousands of sacrifices were made to bring the Ark back. Are we willing to sacrifice what God asks of us?
God’s presence is worth it!
Lord, we were created to live in Your Presence. Now Your Presence, the Holy Spirit, lives in us. We yearn to encounter Your Glory and be transformed by it. Reveal to us how to position ourselves to experience it in Jesus’ name.
