My favorite attribute of God

What is your favorite attribute of God in this season of your life? Is there another season in your life that you were shown that part of His heart in a new way that changed everything?

I would definitely have to say mine is His consistency. Lately when life gets stressful or confusing He is always so quick to tell me that He’s got me; it is so comforting. It’s a good reminder that He should be my focus, not the things around me. It is also starting to remind me why I am doing ministry and to whose glory it is for. (Hint: Not mine.)

1 Corithians 10:31 – Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

One of the first times I really started to believe this was when I was asking God where He was when I was grieving.  One of the hardest years of my life was the year my aunt died from cancer. That year not only did she die in the spring but my grandfather died in the fall of the same year; not long after my uncle was in a car accident and left in critical condition. It was too much. I remember describing to my mom that I felt like I was in a well like Joseph was in and there was no way out. I felt like God would answer everyone else’s prayer but not mine. He had not answered my prayers for my aunt’ He did not save her nor my faith that was also dying because of it.

Where was He?

I remember I would bawl in my bed at night for so long. I felt utterly alone except for my mom’s arms wrapped around me; still, it felt she did not even understand what I was feeling, even though they were her sister and brother.  I can’t even imagine losing my sister, yet this was how my teenage self felt in those moments.

Years later, I asked God where He was in that time. He showed me that He was in my mom as she held me. In the times she was not there, He was curled up around me in my bed as I sobbed in a fetal position. He had not left me as I had assumed; in fact, He was so close. In that time of healing He also told me that His yoke for me was His arm on my shoulders. That was so comforting to me because it meant that He would always be not only with me but so close by. It meant He was not going anywhere.

The verses that God has been giving me when I feel confused or stressed these day are these:

Mathew 28:20b – “…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Hebrews 13:5 – I will never leave you nor forsake you.
