Have you ever felt like God was giving you some kind of plan but you only had half the information?
Sometimes, it feels frustrating. Do you ever get confused and write it off as not hearing correctly? Do you demand God to help you understand?
I feel like God does this a lot. It is almost like His way of getting us to trust Him to lead us and not send us off a cliff. I bet Abraham felt a bit like this when God told him to leave his homeland and go to the land of Canaan. By faith, he did. Huh, crazy right? I’m sure he asked, “Well, how do I get there?” Along the way, he must have asked if he was going the right way or when to stop.
Or what about Joseph getting a prophetic dream of ruling over his family; he sure could not do that in slavery or prison. Or how the disciples (and everyone, including people now) thought Jesus was supposed to be different; he was supposed to conquer Rome and set up His kingdom. What happened to all their hopes and dreams?
God dreams bigger. God’s dream surpass the present, even lifespans and generations. You see, sometimes we get so stuck in our own lives, our own plans, that we can’t see it’s not really ours in the first place. It belongs to God and His story.
I have been confused a lot lately about what God is telling me about His plans in my life; they don’t exactly seem to fit into the other things He has said before. Today I was reminded of something:
My mom and I have been putting a puzzle together. When you look at it now, there are holes in the picture. There are pieces that look like they go in one hole, but they might actually go in the other. God reminded me of a little while ago when I was trying to figure out what He was saying, and He gave me a picture of a map puzzle. You could see part of the map, where I came from maybe, and parts of the future path, but there were holes. God was showing me that it was okay not to know everything right now. He would give me the next pieces when it was time. He wants us to trust Him. He wants us to follow one step at a time. He knows the bigger picture. He knows the best way.
God is showing me that the good things he wants to give me later down the road are worth the wait. Sometimes gifts given in the appointed times are more exciting than if you get them when you want them. For instance, ice-cream is pretty much always good, but if you get it when you have been working hard all day in the heat, it is more refreshing than if you eat it for breakfast.
I think a good response may be to give thanks for who God is, even in the waiting. Take some time to thank Him for the things He is saying even if it is confusing. Thank Him for where you are now and be grateful and content. Look forward expectantly with hope. If you would like prayer for something you can tell us in the comments, even if you just say, “hey I need prayer.”
