Let’s continue working on defeating the lies we’ve been believing.
Do you remember the steps from last week’s blog (Truths to Hold On To)?
- Identify the lie the enemy fed you.
- Find the truths in God’s Word and what He has spoken to you.
- Speak or pray those truths out loud until you believe them and act in that belief.
- Rebuke the enemy.
- Thank God for anything and everything.
Today, let’s look at Psalm 61.
Psalm 61
1 O God, listen to my cry; hear my prayer!
2 From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help He is someone to cry to when my heart is overwhelmed. when you are overwhelmed
Lead me to the towering rock of safety, He is a towering rock of safety
3 for you are my safe refuge, He is my safe refuge
a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. He is an impenetrable fortress
4 Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings! Interlude under His wings you are safe
5 For you have heard my vows, O God. You have given me an inheritance reserved for those who fear your name.
6 Add many years to the life of the king; You are an heir with an inheritance may his years span the generations!
7 May he reign under God’s protection forever. May your unfailing love and faithfulness watch over him. God’s love is unfailing and faithful
8 Then I will sing praises to your name forever as I fulfill my vows each day.
So, your truths today are:
- He is someone to cry to when you are overwhelmed
- He is a towering rock of safety
- He is my safe refuge
- He is an impenetrable fortress
- Under His wings you are safe
- You are an heir with an inheritance
- God’s love is unfailing and faithful
What was your favorite part of this Scripture, and why? I’d love to hear your reflections.
It also feels fitting to end with a prayer.
Prayer
Lord, I thank you that the words You speak never lose their value or effect over this world or over us as Your people. Thank You that we can know and understand the truth through Your Word. Thank You that Your love for us is unchanging and that our identity is found in You. Thank You that Your Word has power, and that our words carry power as well.
I pray for us this week: help us conquer the lies we have believed about ourselves, about You, or about our lives. Overturn mindsets and declarations that go against Your truth. Let Your Word tear out old roots in the soil of our hearts and help truth grow in their place. Renew, restore, and refresh us as we learn to believe what You have already spoken.
Break the enemy’s hold where we have allowed him access. Forgive us for not trusting You or Your Word, and for letting the enemy into the temple of our hearts where only You belong. Forgive us for not fully surrendering to Your work in our lives, and for using our powerful words to speak anything other than life and truth.
Holy Spirit, help us walk in Your fruit and give us strength to stand firm. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
